What to do when life destroys your plans.

What to do when life destroys your plans.

What do I do when nothing is going right in my life?

We all have big plans for our lives, but life doesn't always go according to our plans. Oftentimes, we believe that we have it all figured out; until life throws a curveball and it shatters our plans.

How do you pull yourself together when life has given you a big shocker?  I often pray in moments of great despair. God is my strength! Always keep prayer at the top of your list through the good and bad times.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:6

“Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

Here are some other things that you can do:

1. Pause and think.

Weigh your options carefully. Consider the next move that you're about to make. Is it worth it?  Is it something that you want to do? Or is it just an act of impulse? Take time to assess each situation carefully. Pray about it!

Don't make rash decisions out of desperation.  Give yourself sufficient time to think. Whatever your next move is, it should be one that you've carefully considered, and if it involves a few risks, they should be worth taking.

“Pause, breath, and smile. Anything that adds to your stress is likely not worth pursuing.”
― Majid Kazmi,

2. Look for the lessons.

Our greatest strengths are born out of experiences that we encounter in life. Instead of finding reasons to complain and beat up on yourself. Take a moment to see what life is teaching you.

There could be numerous opportunities in your present moment of gloom. Collect the lessons from each disappointment that you face in life.  Use them as stepping stones to pave your future.

The inevitable is a part of life too, but the good thing is that whatever situations we find ourselves in. They won't last forever. They're only for a season. Things will change eventually.

Stephen King,  his first book, the iconic thriller Carrie, received 30 rejections, finally causing King to give up and throw it in the trash. His wife fished it out and encouraged him to resubmit it. Stephen is now one of the best-selling authors of all time.

“Never lose hope. Storms make people stronger and never last forever.”
― Roy T. Bennett

3. Learn to let go.

If you had all your eggs in one basket and they were all broken, what would you do? Would you try to do the impossible of putting them back together? Or would you clean up the mess and walk away? Not all situations that we encounter in life are quick fixes.

There are times when we have to count our losses and get on with life. Nothing in life is certain. Don't be too sure about anything until you know for sure. Life can change in the blink of an eye.

Stop holding on to people and things that are trying to break free from your grasp. Set them free. Not everything that you have lost is a loss.

“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don't.”
― Steve Maraboli
