Why am I not further in life? 4 reasons.

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”

Alexander Graham Bell

“Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance, you must keep moving.” Albert Einstein

Have you ever sat down and thought to yourself that you should be much further in life at your age? Have you ever said to yourself that, I should have had my dream car, house, a better education, or a higher-paying job by now? It's frustrating, isn't it? Many have been asking themselves these questions for the longest while. Why do you feel as though your life is a mess?  I'll share a few reasons below.

1. You're comparing your life with others.

Our lives aren't all the same. Some have it quite easier than others. As Bob Marley said, "Some feel the rain, others just get wet." If you keep comparing your life with other people who appear to have accomplished that which you think you should have. You'll continuously feel defeated and useless. It will also harbor feelings of jealousy and envy.

Many times we tend to focus only on the fruits of someone else's labor. We completely ignore what it took for them to be where they are at in life. We don't talk about their sleepless nights, hours of overtime, hunger, pain, and countless other sacrifices. Yet, we try to measure up to them. Instead of comparing your life with someone else's, try to do your self-assessment to see what areas of your life could use some improvement and work on those.

“There are things that we never want to let go of, people we never want to leave behind. But keep in mind that letting go isn’t the end of the world, it’s the beginning of a new life.”Unknown

2. You've accepted what toxic people said about you.

I remember when I was about to enter high school.  My cousin told me that I would only attend school for two days. He knew that we were poor, and he thought that poverty would have kept me from completing high school, but that was his declaration over my life, not God's or mine! As hard as I was, I managed to complete my five years of study, and I graduated with honors.

What are you declaring over your life? What are you speaking into being? Many of us have become exactly what others say we would be. We've allowed the words of toxic people to barricade our future. We've buried our hopes and dreams in their opinions of us. You aren't good enough! You can't have this or that. It cannot happen for you!  You'll never make it in life!  We've allowed toxic people to relinquish the power that lies within us. Related 43+ best claim the power within you quotes

I'm here to tell you that no seed of doubt can ever be made manifest in your life without your consent. Only God knows your destiny. Don't allow anyone to tell you that you can't make it in life. That decision is all up to you. My cousin told me that I would only attend high school for two days, but God said, I will send her for five years. What have they been saying about you? What nonsense have they been declaring over your life? What made them think that they know you like that?

It doesn't matter who will support you. It doesn't matter who believes in you. What matters most is that you never quit believing in yourself and the power of God in your life. Don't be a prisoner of your thoughts or what toxic people say about you. It will keep you down in life.

3. You are afraid of failure.

The spirit of fear has killed more dreams than failure ever did. Everyone wants to succeed! No one wants to fail because failure is the bad guy that everyone should avoid. Wow! There's isn't anything wrong with wanting to succeed but we must never forget that failure is also a part of success. There isn't anyone who has ever succeeded without failing. Your fear of failure will keep you back in life. It will prevent you from making your dreams a reality. Related 6 good things about failures.

“March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path.” Kahlil Gibran

4. You lack discipline.

Every area of life requires discipline. I've heard of people wanting to lose weight, yet they refuse to give up unhealthy eating. I've heard of people wanting to save money, yet they keep racking up their credit card bills. I've heard of people not finding the time to acquire a new skill, yet they find the time to watch an entire series for eight hours. I could go on, but I just wanted to point out that nothing will work unless we do.

The need to become better in any area of our life will require something of us. Either more time, commitment, sacrifice, determination, hard work, etc.  If you feel as though you should be much further in life, take a look at your spiritual, emotional, physical, and financial life. Ask yourself, am I truly disciplined in these areas of my life? If not, what am I willing to do to make my life better, starting today? Be honest with yourself! What are you willing to let go of to go further in life?
