How to empower yourself on a rough morning: 7 tips

How to get through a busy morning: 7 tips

How to cope with a bad day?

Some mornings are harder than others. Many of us are quite familiar with those days that feel as though we've lost our magic touch and everything is just going awry.

  • Late for work.
  • Children aren't ready for school.
  • Stuck in traffic.
  • Haven't had breakfast.
  • Haven't had enough sleep.
  • Off to a long shift at work.

Another mad rush morning, that demands so much energy. Sometimes it feels as though the weight of the world is resting on our shoulders. It's just not easy to get by. Below I'll share seven tips that can help to alleviate some of the pressure:

1. Express gratitude

You can never determine how good or bad your day will turn out to be. It may have started on the wrong footing, but it may very well be one of your best days. Take each moment in strides.

Make a list of the things that you're most thankful for. You can start with a short prayer.  God, today I'm thankful for the breath in my body. I'm thankful for mobility.

I'm thankful for my family. I'm thankful for my friends. I'm thankful for my job. I'm thankful for the opportunity to see this new day.  There's always something to be thankful for.

Life is an amazing gift! Only the dead stands at a loss, as long as we're alive there's hope!

2. Read a motivational quote or watch an inspirational video.

Sometimes all you need is a little motivation to kick start your day. If you're having a rough morning, read a beautiful good morning thought. It will help to enlighten your spirit.

''Don't wake up with the regret of what you couldn't accomplish yesterday. Wake up while thinking about what you will be able to achieve today. Good Morning!'' Blissfulquote.com

3.  Stop watching the clock. Pay more attention to what you're doing.

If you're late, you're late! You can never regain the time that you've lost. If you push yourself to go into overdrive you might end up forgetting something or create disasters that could have been avoided. Slow down!

Many times when people are in a hurry to get out of the house. They leave the iron plugged in. They leave the stove on. They leave the doors unlocked.

They leave their keys, wallets, phones, glasses, medication, purses, etc. They forget the usual or worst-case scenario they have an accident because they're moving about too fast, (burns, bruises, strains, sprains, fractured bones, etc).

Here's what you can do if you're running late and you must leave the house:

  •  Let your employer know that you're going to be late.
  • If you have an appointment, let the person know that you're running late.
  • Drive at a moderate speed.
  • Let the school know that your children will be late.
  • Take shorter breaths. They'll calm you down.
  • Put your keys, wallet, phone, medication, glasses, and purse where you can see them.
  • Watch your step.
  • Do a quick check around the house to ensure that you have turned off all the appliances, and most importantly the stove and faucets.
  • Make a list of the three most important things you need to do today and focus on those.

4. Play a happy song.

Add some life to your spirit, and brighten your mood. You don't have to look and feel like the rough day you're having. If you're at a location where you cannot play music aloud, hum your favorite song.

Life happens, you can't control everything that life throws at you, but you can control how you respond to them.

5. Ask for help.

Don't try to multi-task, it will only make you agitated. Ask for help! You'll get more work done faster and you'll end up feeling less exhausted.

6. Go for a walk.

Take a little time to refresh your thoughts. It could be that you have too much on your mind.  Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Let the cool breeze slither through your hair.

Listen to the little birds singing. Bask yourself in the bounties of nature. You may be having a rough day, but it's still a beautiful world.

7. Find somewhere quiet to sit.

This will help to settle your thoughts. Sometimes when we are moving about too fast our thoughts are all over the place. This makes it more difficult for us to focus.

It becomes so easy to make a bad situation worst. Take a little time to sit by yourself. It would be best to leave your phone to avoid any distractions. Just breathe, you've got this.

Take-away

You won't always wake up in an exuberant mood. Some mornings are more challenging than others. Go easy on yourself. Take each moment in strides. If you're having a rough morning:

  • Say a prayer.
  • Try to avoid multitasking.
  • Read an inspirational thought or watch an uplifting video.
  • Take a deep breath.
  • Ask for help.
  • Sit in silence for a little while, or take a walk to settle your thoughts.
I hope that these tips will help you to feel better. Have a great week!
