7 ways to be kinder to yourself.

be kinder to yourself

Do you want to live a less tiresome life? Have you ever wondered why others are so vivacious and you're not? No worries, you aren't the only one. You can start with being kinder to yourself. Here are seven things that you can do.

How do I focus on myself more?

1. Take breaks.

Our bodies have a way to remind us to take a break. Don't ignore the signs! For me, when I'm sitting at my computer desk for long hours.

I can feel my eyes starting to burn, and my fingers becoming numb. Sometimes, I realize that my feet are swollen and my back muscles are extremely tense.

Routinely, I would either get up and walk, elevate my legs, twinkle my fingers and toes, or just shut the computer down. Know when your body is calling for a break. It's not a machine,  even they get wear and tear.

Give your body the break that it needs. It was never created to work continuously. Like a car that overheats. Your body and mind will become sick if you refuse to give them the break that they need.

Whenever I take a break from what I'm doing, I realize that I'm less stressed. I feel decluttered, mentally. I gather new ideas. I have more energy and I'm able to think and work better.

2. Delegate simpler tasks.

There's no need to do everything all by yourself. Delegate simpler tasks to persons who are capable of getting them done. When you are at home don't do all the chores.

If other individuals can assist. Allow them to help with the dishes, groceries, laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. Utilize all the available help. Many hands make work light! Believe me, housework is tiring and time-consuming.

There's always something else to do! Similarly, if you work in a demanding job. Try to assign simpler tasks to your subordinates. Many times they are willing to assist, but you never know if you don't ask.

“If everyone helps to hold up the sky, then one person does not become tired.” ― Askari Johnson Hodari

3. Eat on time.

Many of us are guilty of this one. We become so consumed with work that we neglect eating on time. This isn't healthy for our bodies. Skipping meals can decrease our blood sugar, which causes us to feel fatigued.

There are times when I have severe headaches when I choose to skip lunch. Other times, I might feel a little dizzy or irritable because I haven't had breakfast before heading out to work.

The brain needs glucose to function effectively and that energy comes from what we consume. If we aren't feeding our bodies properly. Eventually, it will go low on energy.

4. Get proper rest.

For more than a decade I've worked in the customer service industry. Sleeping on the job is strictly prohibited. To not sleep on the job and get fired, I must get proper rest each night.

Proper rest is essential for me to function effectively every day. Everyone needs proper rest regardless of the industry that they are in. Without enough sleep, the brain cannot function properly.

This can impair our abilities to concentrate, think clearly, and process memories.

I've come to realize that when I have a good night's sleep. I'm chirpier in the mornings. I'm more productive at work. I'm less irritated. I smile more. I feel refreshed and revitalized.

5. Say something nice about yourself.

Have you ever wondered why some people have nothing good to say about others? It's because they have nothing good to say about themselves.

For some people, it's easier to project their insecurities on others. They believe that it will make them feel better.

Try to say something nice about yourself every day, and you will see the difference that it makes in your life and the way you look at others.

You'll find that you are more compassionate towards others.  You can start with daily affirmations. I'm beautiful. I'm smart. I'm special. I was created on purpose. I'm blessed etc.

You'll never look good for making someone else feel bad. That's a poor reflection of you, not them.

6. Celebrate small improvements.

Take note of the little improvements that you're making in your life. Celebrate every new step that you make. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Growth takes time. You won't see the immediate changes overnight, but little by little if you remain consistent, eventually you'll see something happening. I remember when my spouse started his weight loss journey.

Each day he would record the number of calories that he lost on the treadmill. At first, I saw no changes in his weight. He would burn about 200 calories, I would tell him how proud I am.

I saw that my little words of encouragement enlightened his spirit. So, I continued to encourage him. He would light up each day that he gets home from the gym.

He would ask me to guess the number of calories he lost. As time progressed, he would go up to 300, 400, 500 calories. His last record was close to 800 calories in one day.

Big results take time, it's the small steps that lead to the big things. Don't give up because you aren't seeing any immediate change. It will happen in time!

7. Know when to say, No.

You can't be available all the time. It's not humanly possible. There isn't anything wrong with saying no, I can't do it. No, not this time. No, I need some time for myself. No, I've had enough, etc.

You are a human being like everyone else. There are times when you just can't be available for whatever reason and you don't need to feel bad about it. Set healthy boundaries. Know your limitations. Know when to say, No.

Thanks for taking the time out to read these tips. If you haven't started already. I hope that after reading this post, you'll become kinder to yourself.

You only have one life to live. You only get one shot at it. You won't get it right all the time, but try to make the most of the time that you are given.

Take great care of yourself. Live longer, be happier, and have a less tiresome life!
